Victor L. Heiden

Victor L. Heiden, 68, of Columbia City, Ind., passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at home surrounded by family. Born March 23, 1955, in Pulaski County, Ind., he was the son of the late Robert Heiden and Ruth (Carr) Heiden.

He graduated from Kewanna High School, Kewanna, Ind., with the Class of 1973.  On October 5, 1973, he married Ellen Scales in Kewanna, Ind. Vic worked for Whitley County Consolidated Schools as a bus driver, he then was a courier before moving into the maintenance department and retiring in 2007.  He served 9 years as a camp Ranger with Boys Scouts of America.

Vic liked woodworking and doing crafts.  He played the sousaphone for the Purdue Collegiate Wind Band in 1972, where they traveled to several cities in Europe.  Vic loved to garden and enjoyed all flowers.  He spent time teaching his children all about nature.  His grandchildren were a joy to him, and he tried to pass on his love of woodworking to them.

Vic is survived by his loving wife, Ellen Heiden; sons, Matt (Angela) Heiden of Columbia City, Ind., Ryan (Kerri) Heiden of Fayetteville, Georgia; daughter, Jamie (Winston) Bickley of Garrett, Ind.; grandchildren, Austin, Audrey, McKinley and Aftyn Heiden, Cody and Ty Bickley; and several nieces and nephews.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gary Heiden.

Visitation will be 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, November 29, 2023, with calling one hour prior, also at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.
