Virginia L. Stanley, 89, of Columbia City, passed away suddenly at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Miller's of OakPointe, Columbia City. She was born on February 7, 1929 in Union Township, Whitley County, IN the daughter of Merle Walker and Mary Emily (Dennison) Kyler.
She spent her childhood in Whitley County and graduated from Coesse High School with the Class 1947 and earned her Private Secretarial Certificate from Marion Business College. She worked for Farmers Home Administration of the Department of Agriculture for 20 years. She was also a homemaker and assisted her husband on the family farm. She married Robert D. Stanley on October 20, 1956 in Columbia City. She was a member of First Church of God, and served as Chairperson for Funeral Luncheon's for many years, Women's Christian Service Council where she served as the former President and also member of Town and Country Home Extension Club and the Whitley County Lady Democrats.
Survivors include two daughters, Lori E. Boggs, Columbia City and Ruth A. Stanley, of South Whitley; 2 grandchildren, Greg Strickland of Niceville, FL and Bradley Stanley, Alamogorda, NM; 3 great grandchildren, Anthony, Sabine and Andrew Strickland; sister, Catherine Hawn and brother Richard J. Kyler both of Columbia City. Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert D. Stanley, son, John R. Stanley and sister, Mary Frances Lloyd.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 23, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City with Pastor Penny Mosher, officiating. Burial will follow at South Whitley Cemetery, South Whitley. Memorial gifts may be given in Mrs. Stanley's memory to First Church of God, Whitley County 4-H Clubs, Inc. or Activities Department of Miller's at OakPointe.
