Wilford E. Coy, 81, of South Whitley and formerly of Vevay, Ind. passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at his home. Born on Sept. 29, 1934 in Florence, Ind. he was the son of Robert L. and Emma (Phillips) Coy.
Wilford was born and raised in Southern Indiana, attended school in Florence and, on Sept. 30, 1966, he was married to Marilyn Sue Warner. Wilford worked for both Switzerland County and the town of Vevay for a combined 24 years. He was humbled by and most proud of digging graves and caring for the grass at Vevay Cemetery. Marilyn and Wilford had three daughters, Lee Ann, Jill and Jade; whom he always referred to as his little girls. In 1988 the family moved from Vevay to South Whitley. Locally, Wilford had worked for Whitley Manufacturing before retiring.
Wilford kept active in his retirement and was a very social person he never knew a stranger. He was a member of the McDonalds senior club, a life-time member of the Cincinnati Reds Fan Club and attended Collamer Christian Church when he could. He was a bench warmer at Kroger and Walmart where he loved to sit and socialize with the other shoppers. He was always known to have a pen handy and had accumulated quite a collection of them.
Wilford will be deeply missed by all but will be especially remembered by his little girls, Lee Ann Cicero of South Whitley, Jill Coy of Fort Wayne, Jade Lopez of Fort Wayne; granddaughter, Dakota Robinson of Marion; grandsons, Dallas Coy and Levi Coy both of Fort Wayne, Dakota Funnell of Bowling Green, Ky. and his brothers, Robert (Naomi) Coy of Milroy and Harold (Nettie) Coy of Madison. Also surviving is a special niece, Tina Nettrouer of RoAnn. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn; his parents; his in-laws, Charles Rosalie Warner; his nieces, Sabrina Smith Clark and Conswelia Smith and a nephew, Jonathan Smith.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 22, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr. Columbia City.
