William D. Herendeen, 87, of Columbia City, Ind. passed away at 2:50 a.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Miller's Merry Manor in Columbia City after a brief stay. Born on June 9, 1926 in Allen County, he was the son of Clyde and Dorothy E. (Reynolds) Herendeen.
He graduated from Huntertown High School with the Class of 1944. On October 15, 1948, he married Phyllis J. Coverstone at First Church of God in Columbia City.He worked at United Technologies for 25 years and Transmission Fluids Equipment in Fort Wayne for three years. He had been a member of the Community Bible Church and enjoyed fishing, woodworking and remodeling their home.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis J. Herendeen; daughter, Deb (Dave) Herron of Columbia City; sons, Dave (Deb) Herendeen and Jeff (Lora) Herendeen both of Columbia City; sister, Joyce C. (Roy) Foster of Bozeman, Mont.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Allen and Max Herendeen.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014 from 2 to 8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the funeral home with Pastor John Cummings officiating. Burial at Thorn Cemetery.Memorials may be given in memory of Mr. Herendeen to Community Bible Church.
