Winifred Louise "Wini" Morsches

October 8, 1928 — February 15, 2018

Winifred Louise "Wini" Morsches, age 89, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 2:05 pm on Thursday February 15, 2018 at Parkview Whitley Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 8, 1928 in Wheeling, WV, she was the daughter of Hildred Blanco and Mary Eugenia (Lambert) Jones.
Wini grew up in Wheeling, WV and attended local schools. She graduated from Triadelphia High School in Wheeling with the Class of 1946, and went on to Wittenburg College in Springfield, OH, where she received a BFA, and was a member of Chi Omega Sorority, and met the love of her life Paul J. Morsches Jr.
On September 1, 1951, Wini married Paul J. Morsches Jr. at Grace Lutheran Church in Columbia City and has resided here since.
As a young woman, Wini was a teacher at Marshall Middle School in Columbia City and also in Huntsville, AL, where she was so inspirational and fun that to this day students still reach out and remember her. Wini also worked as an interior designer, where she had an amazing sense of color and design, as seen by her beautiful home and spectacular gardens. Wini was a master homemaker, but she also excelled at many other interests, including painting, bridge, cooking, knitting, needle point, golf, tennis, stilt walking and brilliant entertaining. Wini had a great sense of adventure and curiosity, and traveled with her family to unique locations around the world. However, Wini's greatest joy was her family. She was unparalleled in her generosity of love and caring for them. This generosity was on full display at Christmas time, when she delighted in planning and 910 West Dogwood Drive was the North Pole complete with Santa. Wini taught all of those around her to live, think big and "spread your wings."
Survivors include her loving husband, Paul J. Morsches Jr. of Columbia City; sons, Frederick J. "Fritz" Morsches of Franklin, MI, Hans J. (Stefanie) Morsches of Kansas City, MO, and Franz E. (Stacey) Morsches of Columbia City; 5 grandchildren, Turner, Annie, Chloe, Makenna, and Fredrik.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son, William Frederick Morsches, and brother, Lambert Turner Jones.
A celebration for Wini will be held in her beautiful garden this summer. Memorial contributions in memory of Wini, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
